YPA200. Fiberglass No Sand Primer is designed to eliminate the need to
sand prior to applying antifouling paint to new or unpainted boats.
- No sanding is required, before applying
antifouling paint.

Note:Overcoating
times will vary due to wide variations in temperature and humidity. The
best method is to check the paint film using the "Thumb Print"
test to determine when the Fiberglass No Sand Primer is ready to
overcoat. If the primer feels tacky and you can leave a thumb print in
the paint film without getting any paint on your thumb the Fiberglass No
Sand Primer is ready for overcoating. Test the paint film in the area
where you started, applying the primer 30 minutes after starting the
application. Continue testing every 15 minutes using the "Thumb
Print" test until reaching the Ready-to-Overcoat stage, then begin
to apply Interlux antifouling immediately. Do not apply if the relative
humdity exceeds 85% or if the temperature is above 95°F (35°C). Check
primed surfaces using the "Thumb Print" test before
overcoating with antifouling. If you cannot leave a thumb print in the
Fiberglass No Sand Primer or it is "tack free" it is too late
to overcoat and must be removed. Follow application instructions on the
antifouling label for overcoating times of subsequent coats. |

| Preparation |
Prior
to application of Fiberglass No Sand Primer all contamination such as
mold release wax, oil grease, or blush from epoxy or vinylester resins
must be removed.
BARE FIBERGLASS (POLYESTER OR VINYLESTER) OR EPOXY: Surface
preparation is critical. It must be properly prepared to prevent
delamination of the overcoating paint. Begin by applying Fiberglass
Surface Prep YMA601 to the surface with a plastic scuff pad and scrub
well. Flush with fresh water or wipe off with a clean, wet cloth
ensuring that no traces of Fiberglass Surface Prep remain. As soon as
the surface is dry apply Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202 using the 2-rag
method. To be certain the contamination has been removed, run water over
the surface. If the water beads up or separates, wipe the surface again
with Fiberglass Surface Prep YMA601 or Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. When
the water sheets off, all contamination has be removed.
Sanding does not remove contamination.: |
|
|
| Method |
Apply
one, thin, continuous coat of Fiberglass No Sand Primer using a ¼"
nap roller or natural bristle brush. Apply in one direction only, do not
brush back and forth. Check primed surfaces using the "Thumb
Print" test before overcoating with antifouling. Follow directions
on antifouling label for subsequent coats. |

| Some
Important Points |
Apply
to clean, dry, properly prepared surfaces only. For use over fiberglass,
gelcoat and epoxy primers. Product temperature should be minimum 10°C/50°F
and maximum 29°C/85°F. Ambient temperature should be minimum 10°C/50°F
and maximum 35°C/95°F. Substrate temperature should be minimum 10°C/50°F
and maximum 35°C/95°F. Wear protective clothing and clean up paint
spatters immediately. Paint left to dry on skin will be extremely
difficult to remove and may take several weeks to wear off. Use a
waterless hand cleaner before the Fiberglass No Sand Primer dries to
remove from skin. Do not leave containers open during application. Once
project is complete discard all remaining paint from paint trays or
residue in containers. Do not apply at the end of the day if there is a
risk of condensation/dew overnight. Do not apply Fiberglass No Sand
Primer if the Relative Humidity exceeds 85% or Temperature exceeds 95°F/35°C. |
|
|
| Compatibility/Substrates |
Do
not use Fiberglass No Sand Primer with Micron 66, VC 17m, VC 17m Extra,
Fiberglass Bottomkote Aqua, Micron Optima, VC Offshore, Baltoplate or
any other water based or vinyl antifouling paints. |
