|
| Preparation |
BARE
FIBERGLASS: Degrease by wiping with a rag soaked in Fiberglass Solvent
Wash 202. Sand with 80 grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Wipe
with Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202. Epiglass Epoxy Resin HT9000 or
Interprotect 1000/1001®: Begin by scrubbing well using soap and water
and a stiff brush. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry. Sand with 80
grade (grit) paper. Remove sanding residue. Wipe with Fiberglass Solvent
Wash 202.
BARE METAL: Surface should be blasted to bright metal. Remove all blast
or sanding residue using a clean air line and sweeping with a clean
brush or broom. Vacuum clean for best results. Apply primer within 1
hour of metal preparation. If blasting is not possible (or if more than
2 hours has passed since blasting) sand or grind with coarse emery cloth
and apply Viny-Lux® Primewash 353/354 prior to Interprotect 2000E/2001E
or Interprotect 3000/3001. |
|
|
| Method |
For
fiberglass and most metals, apply enough Interprotect 3000/3001 to reach
Dry Film Thickness of 10 mils. This usually takes 3-4 coats but the
amount of paint is more important than the number of coats. For
application to aluminium when using Micron 66 apply enough Interprotect
3000/3001 to reach Dry Film Thickness of 20 mils. This usually takes 6-8
coats but the amount of paint is more important than the number of
coats. |
|
|
| Hints |
Mixing Ensure
the correct volume mix ratio is used. Mix thoroughly together and then
allow to sit 20 minutes for induction time. Mix only as much as you can
use in the stated pot life.
Thinner Spray - Reducing Solvent 2316N.
Thinning 15% maximum.
Cleaner Fiberglass Solvent Wash 202.
Airless Spray Pressure: 170-204 bar/2500-3000 psi. Tip Size:
0.53-0.66 mm/21-26 thou.
Conventional Spray Pressure Pot: Pressure: 3.44-4.47 bar/50-65 psi
(gun pressure); 10-15 psi (pot pressure). Tip Size: 1.8-2.2 mm/70-85
thou.
Brush Use a natural bristle brush.
Roller Use a 3/8" nap solvent resistant roller.
Other To figure out how much paint is necessary, calculate as
follows: Wetted Surface Area (WSA) = LOA x Beam x 0.85 Then divide the
WSA by 110 when brushing/rolling or 90 when spraying to determine the
number of gallons necessary to reach 10 mils. Prior to application of
Interprotect 3000/3001 obtain and read the Interprotect System Manual. |

|
| Some
Important Points |
The
hull must be dry. Do not apply over one part paints. Product temperature
should be minimum 5°C/40°F and maximum 29°C/85°F. Ambient
temperature should be minimum 0°C/32°F and maximum 35°C/95°F.
Substrate temperature should be minimum 0°C/32°F and maximum 29°C/85°F. |
|
|
| Compatibility/Substrates |
Apply
to clean, dry, properly prepared surfaces only. Interprotect 2000E/2001E
must be used as a tie coat prior to the application of the antifouling
paint. Do not apply over one part paints. When applying vinyl
antifoulings such as VC Offshore and Baltoplate® to Interprotect, apply
an extra coat and allow epoxy to cure overnight then sand with 80 grade
(grit) paper to avoid wrinkling. |
