Genius deck hatches are equipped with one central friction support, enabling the hatch to be opened up to an angle of 180 °. This renders the opening of the hatch virtually free of obstacles, so that e.g. sails can be stored in a simple and efficient manner. Genius escape hatches have two friction supports. The overall height of a Genius hatch measures only 1”.

Genius deck hatches have an anodized aluminum frame, a corner radius of 1 5/8” and the acrylic lid has a thickness of 13/32”, in the colors “smoke” or “green (glass look)”.

The Vetus handles have a number of advantages.
• The hatches can be opened from outside.
• The handles allow for a ventilation position of the hatch; it can now be slightly opened and still remain locked completely.
• The handles have a toggle, by means of which the hatch can be fully locked, whether in the closed or in the ventilation position. With this feature engaged, the hatch cannot be opened from outside.
• A provision has been made so that ropes (e.g. running rigging on sailing craft) cannot foul around the handles if the hatch is opened.
• The handles are sturdy, so that breaking and entering has become very difficult indeed.
